A town with a tradition of craftsmanship

Fukuyama City has developed various industries and is known as a “town of craftsmanship” where traditions and techniques have been passed down. It also boasts a rich natural environment, ranging from the southern part facing the Seto Inland Sea to the mountains in the north, as well as a variety of tourist resources such as local cuisine, natural landscapes, and historical streetscapes.

ABOUT

In the village of Tomonoura (southern part of Fukuyama city), which prospered as a tidal waiting port, the tradition of blacksmiths manufacturing anchors is still carried on today at the Tomonoura Steel Industrial Park.

In the northern part of Fukuyama City, cotton cultivation has been encouraged since the Edo period. It has flourished as a production area for one of Japan’s three major kasuri fabrics “Bingo Kasuri” and has become a major producer of domestically made denim and jeans.
